Damien Robitaille - St-Jean 2013! ( 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm )
DAMIEN ROBITAILLE  just can’t wait to headline Sudbury’s annual St-Jean-Baptiste concert, so he is coming in advance of the traditional date. His concert featuring songs from his new album Omniprésent will be held at the Grace Hartman Amphitheatre in Bell Park on Thursday, June 6th at 7 p.m. This event is the inaugural celebration of La Slague’s 50th anniversary year, and the perfect kick-off to summer!

After his triumphant appearance in early April at the Métropolis, Montreal’s temple of the idols, the quirky, warm-hearted melodist extraordinaire is returning to salute his early Sudbury fans, who were among the first to be swept up in his wave. With new hits and a fantastic full back-up band, Damien promises to fling open the doors of summer and get everyone up and swaying to his latest latino-inspired rhythms.

Tickets for Damien Robitaille’s concert are offered at the incredible low price of $12 for adults and $7 for children, all fees included.

Damien Robitaille

Guitars Alive XI festival weekend! ( 7:00 pm )
Sudbury's first annual Guitar Festival takes place next month June 7-9. Dr. Matthew Gould, Director of Guitar Studies at Cambrian College and Artistic Director of the event said, "we are excited that through the support of the Ontario Arts Council Northern Arts Program we are able to expand Guitars Alive X1 to a three day festival". The concerts feature student guitar ensembles and expose guitar students and community members to professional guitar entertainment by local, regional and nationally renowned musicians. Proceeds are used to promote quality guitar education in our district elementary, secondary and post educational institutions through concerts, high profile student performance opportunities, scholarships and purchase of instruments and supplies.

June 7: Guitars Alive Trio (Philip Candelaria, Paul Dunn, Gary DiSalle) the founders of Guitars Alive eleven years ago and a unique ensemble playing three different types of guitars – electric, acoustic and classical - will perform works from their debut recording "Latin Cafe" at this CD release party concert featuring classic and original Latin compositions as well as an eclectic mix of blues, folk, jazz and DiSalle & Dunn originals. 7:00pm Sheridan Auditorium, Sudbury Secondary School.

June 8: Sudbury Guitar Trio (Matthew Gould, Al Yzereef, Keenan Comartin) are the new artistic directors of Guitars Alive and have become one of Ontario's leading guitar ensembles. They recently had their international debut in Ohio and have been invited to the soundSCAPE festival in Maccagno, Italy this summer. Also performing are student ensembles from the Rainbow District School Board, Joanne Landry Guitar Studio, First Nations Guitar Ensemble from Manitoulin island, Cambrian College, Cambrian College Music Academy, Laurentian University and the new Sudbury Guitar Orchestra; marking the debut of this community guitar orchestra. 7:00pm Sheridan Auditorium, Sudbury Secondary School.

June 9: Christine Tassan et les Imposteures are a high energy Quebec gypsy jazz ensemble with humor and original songs inviting us all to join them and share some bubbles! Tireless explorers of the Gypsy jazz world, the four-woman band confirms their originality and offers a new show sparkling with invigorating ingredients: subtle harmonies, modern inflections and playful shams. Add a tangy and tonic jazz base, an assortment of brilliant songs, a pinch of Cuban flavors, a hint of Argentinian languor, a dash of poetry, an exquisite Quebec whiff, and most importantly a great deal of humor! All this is served well chilled by two festive guitars, an impetuous violin and a thrilling double bass! Their recently released 3rd CD "C'EST L'HEURE DE L'APERO has been described as "an ode to the pleasures of life". 7:00pm Grace Hartman Ampitheatre for the opening the 2013 Bell Park Concert Series.

Tickets for June 7th or 8th concerts are $20 at the door and $15 in advance at Black Cat, Cosmic Dave’s, Jett Landry, Dupont’s Guitar Shop, Guitar Clinic, and Prom Music. Mary-Janes of Comedy ( 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm )
These homegrown Canadian women are sure to shake things up and leave you laughing! P.S. There's nothing "girly" about this show.

With the success of last year’s “Where the Hell Are We?” tour and their individual successes throughout the year, the Mary-Janes of Comedy begin their second consecutive summer tour in Ontario. The show features four accomplished and quickly rising comedians from the Canadian comedy scene who have been seen on ABC’s the View, Much Music’s Video on Trial, Comedy Network’s Comedy Now, ichannel’s No Kidding and more.

Canadian Comedy award nominee, Candice Gregoris brings her background in sketch and improv to the stage as host of the show while delivering her passive aggressive style of stand-up comedy. Shelley Kidwell the buxom beauty captivates audiences and critics alike with her witty observations, comedic timing and southern style, while Amanda Day tells personal tales in her own unique stoner style. Headlining the show is Lianne Mauladin, who recently appeared on ABC’s the View. Known for her laid back, Rock n' Roll style of comedy, she tells stories of her non-traditional life experiences and surprises audiences with her unique view of society.

The event takes place at the Quality Inn Hotel. Tickets are $22.60 and can be purchased through the Sudbury Theatre Boxx Office.
